Functional Capacity Evaluation

Looking to understand a client's current level of function? Looking to match someone to a new occupation within their physical abilities?

Nova Care Occupational Solutions offers 1- and 2-day Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) designed to aid both workers, employers and other health care professionals in assessing their physical capabilities. Trained under Workwell and Key Functional Assessment Protocols, our evaluations are evidence-based, thorough, and adhere to standardized testing protocols.

A standardized FCE distinguishes itself through a comprehensive assessment approach. We prioritize delivering unbiased results to resolve cases fairly, without favoring either the injured party or the payer. By prioritizing safety, reliability, validity, practicality, and utility, we address the specific queries of the referring party while accurately gauging the injured individual's consistency of effort and potential for returning to work safely. What inquiries does the FCE address? The FCE addresses three fundamental questions: 1) current physical abilities, 2) potential for work, and 3) level and consistency of effort exerted. Beyond these basics, FCEs provide answers to more detailed queries from case managers, rehabilitation consultants attorneys, and physicians, including:

·       Does the individual have the physical capacity to resume their previous job?

·       Can they meet specific job demands?

·       Are they capable of completing a light-duty workday or portions of their current job?

·       Did they demonstrate full and consistent effort during the evaluation?

·       What are the safe work restrictions for them?

·       What are the rehabilitation or return-to-work options for someone out of work for an extended period?

·       How does their endurance hold up over a typical workday?

·       What is their workday tolerance?

·       Are there reliability issues with subjective reports?

·       What discrepancies exist between the individual's demonstrated capacity and the job demands?

These 1 or 2 day evaluations will include a musculoskeletal review, standarized testing for lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, and various other physical tolerances. We will test a client's ability to perform their critical job demands while providing an objective opinion on client's work day tolernace.
